Harp Susan

Susan Scarbrough Syverson

Harpist, harp teacher, freelance performer, arranger, composer and ambassador for the harp wherever she goes, Susan has one foot in North America and the other in Scandinavia.

Susan earned her BA in harp, music education at Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas, USA, and Masters in Music in harp, harp pedagogy, at University of Arizona School of Music under Dr. Carrol McLaughlin.

Chamber and symphony orchestras have Susan as harpist regularly when she is not at her part-time teaching job at Music School in Kristianstad, Sweden.

Under grants from regional arts groups and Swedish National Arts Council, Susan tours and teaches internationally. Nordic traditional is a favourite genre (Vindonia Trio), as well as celtic and world music in general.

Her experience with lever and pedal harps, having been a distributor for an international harp company many years and teaching for over decades, her knowledge of how the harp works, how the student brain works, how to care for a harp, how to compose for this instrument, Susan has a unique skill set and speaks to harp classes about all of the above, receiving acclaim from parents and harpists alike.

She may seem quite shy but once you get her going with her harp, you’ll see what is meant by the above.
